Robbins Heritage Park & Stormwater Project Nears Completion – Spring 2026
The Village of Robbins, in partnership with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, is advancing one of the largest and most impactful stormwater infrastructure projects in the Southland. The Robbins Heritage Park and Midlothian Creek Restoration Project represents a major investment in flood mitigation, environmental restoration, and long-term community resilience.
For decades, Robbins has faced recurring flooding challenges due to its location within the Midlothian Creek watershed and the limitations of aging stormwater systems. This multi-phase project addresses those challenges by combining modern stormwater management with ecological restoration and public green space. The effort is designed not only to reduce flooding but also to improve water quality and enhance the surrounding environment.
Key components of the project include the construction of stormwater detention areas, creek bank stabilization, diversion channels, and green infrastructure elements such as native plantings and bioswales. Once fully completed, the project is expected to significantly reduce flood risk during major storm events and remove hundreds of acres from the floodplain, providing long-term protection for homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure.
Beyond its technical impact, the Robbins Heritage Park will serve as a community asset that blends infrastructure with open space. The project transforms stormwater management into an opportunity for environmental education, recreation, and neighborhood revitalization while strengthening the Village’s resilience to climate-related challenges.
This partnership with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District underscores Robbins’ growing role in regional infrastructure planning and investment. As construction progresses, the Village remains focused on delivering lasting benefits for residents and positioning Robbins as a leader in forward-thinking, sustainable development across the Southland.
